2020 IPL Tom Banton
Here are three young overseas stars who should find a bidder in the upcoming 2020 IPL Auction, including a former RCB star

2020 IPL is the final instalment of the three-year cycle. While this provides an opportunity for teams to experiment, good performance is also imperative. Over the years, IPL franchises employ different approaches. While RR and DC back their youngsters, MI and CSK value experience. With the 2020 IPL Retention List turning a few heads, teams seem to have an idea of what they require. Although they might not find the right candidate in the domestic circuit, overseas stars could be an answer.

There are instances of young budding overseas stars making an impact in IPL history. The likes of Shaun Marsh and Jason Holder first made an impact for KXIP and CSK respectively before making it big on the international scene. Similarly, teams will look to buy young stars for the future in 2020 IPL Auction as well. As part of 2020 IPL, here are three young overseas stars who will find a bidder in the auctions.

1 Tom Banton

Somerset opener, Tom Banton is perhaps the most talked-about youngster in world cricket right now. Although he is still finding his feet in international cricket, 2019 has been a fairly successful year for Banton. He scored over 500 runs for Somerset in the T20 Blast 2019. He is currently playing for the Qalandars in the T10 League in Abu Dhabi. Although he is just nineteen years old, he smashed the fastest fifty in the competition, off just 17 balls. Likened to Kevin Pietersen by many, Tom Banton has a wide range of shots in his arsenal. While there is some hype over him, Banton should ideally find a place and feature in 2020 IPL.

2 Qais Ahmad

2020 IPL: qais ahmad

Afghanistan has a brilliant spin roster including Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman. Although he is yet to make his T20I debut for Afghanistan, Qais Ahmad is a special talent. Qais is a nineteen-year-old leggie, who has ample experience in franchise leagues. Guyana Amazon Warriors, Hobart Hurricanes, Rajshahi Kings and Bangla Tigers. All the aforementioned franchises have benefitted from Qais Ahmad’s ability to pick wickets. Although he tends to be a touch expensive, Qais has all the tools to follow Rashid Khan’s path to stardom. His recent surprise ball against Russell in the T10 League shows his variety as well. Teams such as KKR and MI, who value leg-spin are possible suitors for the Afghan. Although the Indian domestic circuit is filled with young spinners, picking Qais Ahmad for 2020 IPL would be a decent punt.

3 Shimron Hetmyer

IPL 2020 Shimron Hetmyer

Shimron Hetmyer is one of the best young players in the world. Released by RCB prior to 2020 IPL, Hetmyer is up for grabs in the auction. Although he did score a match-winning fifty against SRH in IPL 2019, Shimron Hetmyer is in the midst of a slump. His performances in the ICC World Cup 2019 were sub-par. While he is still rated very highly, his exploits for Guyana Amazon Warriors and West Indies do not justify his talents. However, there are teams who can use his explosiveness in the middle order. RR and KKR are potential suitors for Hetmyer with both teams lacking a middle-order batsman. Only time will tell if Hetmyer can prove his worth in 2020 IPL.
