Ahead of the release of retained players, Mumbai Indians breaks the internet. While MI has already traded Sherfane Rutherford, Trent Boult’s acquisition is simply sensational. Although MI has a good bowling attack, Boult adds another dimension. While he fits MI’s left-arm pacer obsession, Boult is one of the finest exponents of swing bowling. With the completion of Boult’s trade, MI looks more or less settled ahead of IPL Auction 2020. Although Boult costs INR 2.2 Crores, MI is the king of IPL Trades. Despite the trade, Mumbai’s squad is beaming with talent. Be it local or international, MI seems to have ample depth. Here is a breakdown of why MI IPL 2020 Squad is the best in IPL History.
Although they seem to lack experience in this department, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock are two of the best openers in white-ball cricket. Both of them were sensational last year as well. While Suryakumar Yadav is another useful asset, Rohit and De Kock remain key. Sherfane Rutherford’s move to MI could mean Pollard batting at number four. Although he is a handy lower-order batsman, Pollard’s experience counts at four. In spite of all the ruckus, MI has ample depth. Ishan Kishan and Siddhesh Lad are useful standbys. Along with them, Anmolpreet is another youngster looking to make a mark. While they might be young, an IPL Trophy in their bags makes a huge difference.
Mumbai Indians’ greatest assets are their allrounders. MI IPL 2020 Squad boasts of the Pandya Brothers and Sherfane Rutherford. While Krunal and Hardik are genuine superstars, Rutherford is still finding his feet. Given his talents and reputation, he is surely one for the future. While MI also has the services of Ben Cutting and Anukul Roy, they will look to add one more Indian all-rounder. With the Krunal and Hardik being certainties, MI is spoilt for choice for the third allrounder spot. This is what makes MI IPL 2020 Squad one of the best.
Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah opening the bowling is a dream scenario. Adding Lasith Malinga to the equation only sweetens the deal. In these three gentlemen, they have five or possibly six powerplay overs and five death overs as well. With all three individuals capable of picking wickets, MI IPL 2020 Squad is just too good. Although they have the aforementioned trio, back up is necessary. Nevertheless, MI has this covered as well. In Alzarri Joseph, they have a useful asset. Although MI is expected to release Rasikh Dar and Barinder Sran, an addition such as Mohit Jangra or Tushar Deshpande would be ideal.
As for the spin bowling department, Rahul Chahar and Krunal Pandya lead the line. With Anukul Roy also in the ranks, both individuals should play a huge role. While Mayank Markande left for greener pastures, the onus is on Chahar to deliver. While he did do well last year, consistency is key.
All in all, MI IPL 2020 Squad is filled with experience and talent. With the exception of Suryakumar Yadav, all of MI’s first-choice players are capped. Although Suryakumar Yadav isn’t far off, this is why MI is the most successful team in IPL History. With a squad such as this, who would want to face them at the Wankhede in IPL 2020.
